CAS Manuelita 3

CAS Objectives:

  •
Planned and initiated activities- In order to complete this objective for CAS La Manuelita, I had to create new activities, by planning them with the group in the end of each day, while also initiating them during our time there.
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- I really enjoyed being at La Manuelita, which meant that I was very committed to the activity, and my perseverance level was very high. This was very good in order to achieve the objective.
  • Engaged with issues of global importance- During La Manuelita I was able to engage in global issues, as I was helping the elders with everything they needed, and giving them support for the time I was engaged at the activity.

The Manuelita Christmas party was something very special and amazing, in which I was very proud of being part of as I was the person who dressed up as Santa Claus to give out the presents for the elders. The experience of watching the happiness of the elders was very pleasing, and it showed to me how being inside a giant Santa Claus suit for 45 mins was worth it, as I completely forgot about how hot it was throughout the whole 2 hours. I really enjoyed being present for this event as it gave me the feeling of joy when making the elders presents and helping them remember about their childhood.

This was my second day at La Manuelita, and I am still surprised at how many wonderful things one can learn from the elders at the place. Today's activity was based on the memorization skills of the elders, as we played games and asked them to tell us about their lives. I asked my mom to volunteer coming with us to the Manuelita site, something that she will do every tuesday in order to help us with the activities. It was a great experience for me as I was able to not only learn from them, but also help them with their memorization skills, and give them support when needed.

  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- I really enjoyed being at La Manuelita, which meant that I was very committed to the activity, and my perseverance level was very high. This was very good in order to achieve the objective.

My first visit to La Manuelita as my second CAS activity was very eye-opening for me, as it showed how many things you can learn from elders, as they are a source of experience willing to share with others. I really enjoyed it, as most of them were very happy with our presence there and were ready to be part of any activity we planned for them. The first and only activity of the first day was planned by us CAS students, and Martha Bocanegra, in order to get to know the elders and for them to meet us and learn our names. We understood that some of them had Alzheimer and that they would forget soon but with perseverance and commitment we would greet them and try remind them of who we were, I enjoyed it very much.

CAS Soccer 15

CAS Objective:

  • Planned and Initiated Activities- I had to plan the different activities that we were going to do during the soccer lessons, while also organizing it, initiating it, and helping others to improve their skills.
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- This objective was accomplished through the different areas of commitment that I was required to show during the different activities, which led to the improvement of my personal skills.
Due to the fact that we were victorious on our last match of the UCB tournament, the coaches decided that the activities of the final day of Soccer co-curricular would be a match between the team. We had to  jog for 5 minutes around the field, and stretch before continuing to the simple and fun activities planned by the me and the other CAS participants. Then playing a match for the rest of the class with the girls who also had a team. This was a very interesting activity as everyone was very motivated in playing, an impressive commitment shown by most of the team. I really enjoyed participating in soccer CAS as my first activity, as it helped me improve in areas that I was lacking, and also show service to the coaches when they needed my help.

CAS Objective:

  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- This objective was accomplished through the different areas of commitment that I was required to show during the different activities, which led to the improvement of my personal skills.
  • Worked Collaboratively with Others- In this sport we are supposed to know how to work with each other as a team in order to be victorious. I really enjoyed working with others as it helped me understand that I can help people with certain aspects, and also learn a lot from them.
I am glad to say that I am very proud of our performance on the pitch today, we dominated the match winning by 2x1 in which I was fortunate to score one goal and also give an assistance. This accomplishment showed how the practices from the previous week helped on the technical development of the team, and how much the team improved over the course of the term. Unfortunately we were not able to acquire the sufficient result to pass to the semifinal, but the experience helped us improve in many different areas. I was able to demonstrate my advancements on the pitch, which makes me very happy with my performance.

CAS Soccer 13

CAS Objectives:

  • Develop New Skills- In my first Soccer lesson, I was able to learn many new things, develop new skills, and improve the skills I already had. It was very good as it helped me improve in certain areas that I was not as good in.
  • Worked Collaboratively with Others- In this sport we are supposed to know how to work with each other as a team in order to be victorious. I really enjoyed working with others as it helped me understand that I can help people with certain aspects, and also learn a lot from them.
Today we practiced for our final match for the UCB tournament, as we did not qualify for the semifinals, but we are still seeking the victory in order to leave the tournament with at least one victory instead of only experience. We practiced the passing and dribbling skills, ran around the field, and organized the team that would play in the match knowing that this match was crucial for our morale. This practice helped me understand how the team would have to position inside the pitch, and allowed me to help the coaches with the material and planning of the activities.

  • Worked Collaboratively with Others- In this sport we are supposed to know how to work with each other as a team in order to be victorious. I really enjoyed working with others as it helped me understand that I can help people with certain aspects, and also learn a lot from them.
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- This objective was accomplished through the different areas of commitment that I was required to show during the different activities, which led to the improvement of my personal skills.
Today the coaches decided that we should practice what we learnt on the previous lesson in an actual match training. To start we had to run 2 laps around the field and then stretch so that the possibility of an injury during the game decreases. Then we practiced passing skills for around 15 minutes, which was very good, as passing is one of the areas that the team lacks the most. After this we were able to play a full match in order to identify the mistakes that the team was making. This helped me visualize what I could do in order to score more goals to help the team as much as I could.

CAS Soccer 11

CAS Objectives:

  •     Increase their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth- This was focused on the last objective as I found my personal limitations, while improving them throughout the activity.
After a shameful defeat on the previous match, I discovered had many errors to correct, mistakes led to the impact on the final result, as I was not able to score for the team. During the training I helped the coach on the organization and planning of the dribbling and shooting activities, while aiming to improve in the areas that needed improvement. My goal was to show to the coach and teammates that I was capable of advancing my techniques in order to help the team achieve greater results playing against other schools, I knew I had to work harder.

CAS Soccer 10

CAS Objectives:

  • Planned and Initiated Activities- I had to plan the different activities that we were going to do during the soccer lessons, while also organizing it, initiating it, and helping others to improve their skills.
  •     Increase their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth- This was focused on the last objective as I found my personal limitations, while improving them throughout the activity.
Even though the tie was obtained last match, our team was not able to qualify to the semifinals, due to the fact that today we lost our third match in the tournament, as we did not acknowledge the strength of the team that we were playing against. The team looked very disorganized and lost inside the pitch, therefore we lost by 4x0, and I was able to observe every mistake I made in order to improve for a future opportunity of playing football for an official tournament. Areas such as technique, and positioning are some of the areas that must be improved in the future practices. I was in charge of planning and initiating the warm up for the match, which allowed me to teach other teammates about warm ups from my previous years practicing the sport.

After a great performance by the team, we were still not able to be victorious on our tournament campaign, but we were able to obtain our first tie. I scored my second goal for the season, while we tied 1x1, clearly showing signs of improvement, while also demonstrating that the personal skills lesson was very helpful for the development of the team. This helped me by showing that my skills were finally being useful to the team, and that I was starting to advance on my cardio physique, which is very useful during matches. I am very proud of the team for this achievement, but I know there are still a lot of areas to correct and improve.

CAS Soccer 8

Cas Objectives:

  • Undertake New Challenges- I was able to fit the criteria to have the ability to meet challenges and an awareness of personal limitations, while correcting the mistakes committed during the activity.
  • Worked Collaboratively with Others- In this sport we are supposed to know how to work with each other as a team in order to be victorious. I really enjoyed working with others as it helped me understand that I can help people with certain aspects, and also learn a lot from them.

In today's lesson we were required to work on our cardio physique as we will have two games in a row in the next week against two very challenging teams, which means that we have to be prepared for those match. It was was very good for me because I was able to continue advance my cardio characteristics as they get better as the days pass. I also helped on the organization of the materials that were used in class today, and was available for other contributing factors when the coaches needed my help.

Cas Objectives:

  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- This objective was accomplished through the different areas of commitment that I was required to show during the different activities, which led to the improvement of my personal skills.
  •     Increase their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth- This was focused on the last objective as I found my personal limitations, while improving them throughout the activity.

Today's lesson was very tiring but helpful, in which I improved skills, and helped others on the areas they were lacking. In terms of helping the group, I was in charge of creating an activity, and preparing the material for the warm up, while trying to conserve the training characteristics from the soccer coaches. While I knew the areas that I needed improvement on, so I decided to ask the coach if we could focus on personal mistakes, in order to fix them, so he separated us into groups formed by the different positions of a soccer match. It was very useful and I believe it will be very helpful for our future performances as a team.

Today was the start of the UCB competition I believed that the team was prepared for the challenge of playing against another international school, but unfortunately I was mistaken. The disorganization continued, while the other team massacred us with a 7x1, in which I scored the only goal of the match. I noticed that there was still a lot of things that I had to improve on, and that although the team played very bad, we were still better than in the friendly match, meaning that we were on the way for better results. I learned that I was lacking on communication skills through the game, which I must work on during practices.

CAS Soccer 5

CAS Objectives:

  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- This objective was accomplished through the different areas of commitment that I was required to show during the different activities, which led to the improvement of my personal skills.
  • Develop New Skills- In my first Soccer lesson, I was able to learn many new things, develop new skills, and improve the skills I already had. It was very good as it helped me improve in certain areas that I was not as good in.
Today we decided that the a improvement lesson was needed, as the friendly match clearly demonstrated a lack in skills and organization. The lesson started with a simple jog around the field in order to improve the cardio physique of the players that participated in the game, it was a challenge for me because I was exhausted from the previous match. After that we practiced some dribbling and shooting skills, due to the lack of opportunities during the game, this helped me improve in the areas that were limited during the friendly match. This lesson was very productive and helpful for our future games, as it showed to us what areas we needed to improve in order to have a better performance.
